Kristi Van Kessel climbed the CN Tower last year for her fitness goal for her participation on Slice Networks’s TV show “ X-weighted” on behalf of the United Way of Toronto.  On Saturday October 25 this year she did the climb on behalf of the United Way of the City of Kawartha Lakes.  We caught her just as she was heading for her run.

KT.C: So, how did the climb go?
Krisit: “The climb went great, what a perfect day! It is still the best feeling in the world reaching the top! (Except that it was so foggy and raining we didn’t get to see anything!) I can’t wait to do it again!
KT.C: And how did the fundraising go?
Krisit: I am disappointed that I raised only $600.00 this year but it all comes back here to my community.  I’ve promised myself I will do much better next year.  I have already started thinking about next year’s climb and would like to get started earlier with the promotion and fundraising, because I know I can do more. I know I am going to do this climb every year, and every year I want to do it faster and better. I will have the same goal for fundraising. I see how achievable it can be with the proper support to get the word out and raise the money, so I want to set a goal to raise more every year no matter what. I was thinking over the weekend about maybe doing a fundraising event a couple weeks ahead of the actual climb.  Perhaps a mini-stair climbing relay for 24 hours at outdoor stairs I practice on at McDonnell Park or perhaps the grandstand at the Lindsay Fair?  I canvassed only within my little town of Little Britain; a more public event would raise more awareness of my climb and the service that the United Way provides.
KT.C: You have pictures!
Krisit: The photos are before and after shots. My sister Niki and her partner, Robbie are in the white shirts; my friend Christa is on the end and I am standing beside my sister.
KT.C: Any surprises?
The climb was made extra special because two different people came up to me after the climb to say they recognized me from the tv show last year. One young woman told me she climbed the CN Tower this year because she watched me do it on the show last year and was so inspired she did it this year!”
